In a major political event aimed at uplifting the disabled community in Bihar, the Statewide Disabled Rights Conference was held at Bapu Sabhagar in Patna. The event witnessed a strong turnout of delegates and leaders who gathered to discuss policies and rights concerning people with disabilities. During the conference, Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, addressed the gathering and made significant promises to improve the lives of disabled individuals across the state.

Tejashwi Yadav Seeks Blessings to Become CM, Promises Change for Disabled People

While addressing the audience, Tejashwi Yadav sought the blessings of the disabled community, asking for their support in his bid to become the Chief Minister of Bihar. He emphasized that if the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) forms the government, Bihar will witness significant changes within a month, particularly in policies and welfare schemes for disabled individuals. He assured the gathering that their struggles would not be ignored and promised swift and impactful action.

15 Promises for Disabled People in Bihar

Tejashwi Yadav laid out a comprehensive 15-point agenda for the welfare of disabled people in the state. Here are the key promises he made during his speech:

  1. Monthly Pension of ₹1500 for Disabled People: Tejashwi Yadav promised that, if his government is formed, disabled individuals in Bihar will receive a monthly pension of ₹1500. He also assured that this pension amount will increase by ₹200 annually, ensuring that the financial support keeps pace with inflation.

  2. Creation of a Dedicated Ministry and Commission: One of the first steps under a Mahagathbandhan-led government will be the establishment of a separate ministry and commission dedicated to addressing the issues of disabled individuals. This initiative aims to ensure that policies and programs are specifically tailored to meet the needs of the disabled community.

  3. Reservation for Disabled People in Panchayat Elections: In a historic move, Tejashwi Yadav committed to implementing separate reservation for disabled individuals in the upcoming Gram Panchayat elections across the state. This step will help ensure greater political participation and representation for disabled people at the grassroots level.

  4. Filling Backlog of Disabled Quota in Government Jobs: Tejashwi acknowledged that there is a significant backlog in the disabled quota for government jobs and promised that his government would address this issue within one month of coming to power. The Leader of the Opposition vowed to initiate the process of filling these vacancies, ensuring that disabled people have access to government employment opportunities.

  5. Dedicated Sports Grounds for Disabled Athletes: Tejashwi announced plans to construct separate sports grounds specifically designed for disabled individuals. These grounds will cater to various types of sports, providing a platform for disabled athletes to showcase their skills. He emphasized that such facilities would not only promote physical fitness but also give rise to sporting talent among disabled individuals.

  6. Incentives for Disabled Athletes: Further to his sports initiative, Tejashwi promised that if disabled athletes perform well in these specialized sports facilities, they would be rewarded with medals, including Gold and Silver, as well as other incentives. He made it clear that those who excel in sports will be given the opportunity to represent Bihar at higher levels.

  7. Employment Opportunities for Disabled Sportspeople: Tejashwi assured that athletes with disabilities who perform excellently would be considered for government jobs as part of his commitment to promoting inclusivity and empowering the disabled community in Bihar.

The Vision for an Inclusive Bihar

Tejashwi’s vision for an inclusive Bihar is one that places a strong emphasis on creating opportunities for disabled individuals to thrive, both in terms of their career prospects and social mobility. By establishing a dedicated ministry, ensuring fair employment opportunities, and investing in infrastructure like sports facilities, the RJD leader aims to create a Bihar where disabled individuals are seen as equals, and their contributions to society are valued.

In his address, Tejashwi also emphasized that his government would focus on breaking down barriers faced by the disabled community, whether in terms of physical accessibility, financial independence, or social integration. He promised to provide an environment where disabled people can lead dignified lives, participate actively in society, and have access to all the opportunities that non-disabled individuals enjoy.

The Importance of Representation in Governance

The Leader of the Opposition also highlighted the significance of giving disabled individuals a voice in governance. By offering reservation in local elections, he aims to ensure that disabled people are not only heard but are actively involved in decision-making processes that affect their lives. Tejashwi’s proposal aligns with his broader goal of empowering marginalized communities and making governance more inclusive.

Tejashwi also underlined the need to create an ecosystem where disabled individuals can contribute to various sectors, including sports, arts, and the workforce. By providing incentives for excellence and ensuring that there are no barriers to entry in various sectors, the RJD leader hopes to create an environment where everyone, regardless of their abilities, has the chance to succeed.

The Political Context and Upcoming Elections

This announcement comes as Bihar prepares for its next round of elections, with Tejashwi Yadav positioning himself and the Mahagathbandhan as champions of social justice and inclusivity. His promises to the disabled community reflect a broader strategy of engaging with underrepresented groups and addressing issues of inequality.

Tejashwi’s focus on the disabled community could resonate with voters who feel that their concerns have long been neglected by the current government. With an emphasis on social welfare, employment, and political representation, he aims to rally support from a crucial segment of the population that has often been sidelined in political discourse.

Looking Ahead: What the Disabled Community Can Expect

If Tejashwi Yadav’s promises come to fruition, the disabled community in Bihar can expect substantial improvements in both their day-to-day lives and long-term prospects. From financial support to better representation in governance and increased access to employment and sports opportunities, the proposed measures indicate a transformative shift in how disabled individuals will be treated and supported in Bihar.

Tejashwi’s speech marks a turning point in the political landscape, where disabled individuals are being placed at the center of policy discussions. As the political climate heats up, it remains to be seen how these promises will be received by the electorate and whether they will translate into real-world action if the Mahagathbandhan takes power.

Tejashwi Yadav’s address at the Statewide Disabled Rights Conference in Patna has set the stage for a transformative approach to disability rights in Bihar. With promises to provide financial support, create employment opportunities, and improve access to sports, education, and political representation, his agenda reflects a commitment to creating a more inclusive society. As Bihar heads towards the next election, the disabled community is likely to play a pivotal role in shaping the outcome, and Tejashwi’s promises could be a deciding factor in their support for the Mahagathbandhan.
